DIY Hair Mask

Raise your hand if you have put your hair thru the ringer…. *both hands raised*

I believe I have had every hair color under the sun – platinum blonde to turquoise to orange to purple… Ive processed and bleached and processed and bleached more times than I can count.

What happened to the days of “Sun In” ? Do they even make it anymore? haha.

I decided to try out a new DIY home-remedy mask. I have hypothyroidism and celiacs disease – my hair and skin constantly NEED extra TLC and often store brands just strip my hair.

The mixture I used:

  • 2tbsp – coconut oil
  • 2tbsp – avocado oil
  • 2tbsp – almond oil
  • 3 drops spearmint essential oil
  • 3 drops lavender essential oil

*** I will post the brands I used at the end of this post.

I meant to use peppermint essential oil – but I accidentally grabbed the spearmint and just went with it. Next week I will make sure to use peppermint – as its supposed to stimulate hair growth. We shall see…

I combined all the ingredients into a mixing bowl. I then, with dry hair, (over my bathroom sink) dipped my ends into the bowl – SOAKING THEM! I then rubbed the remaining mixture up my hair-shaft, massaging it in —– whoa that sounded way more dirty than intended – whoops!

I then used the remaining oil to massage into my scalp for some extra TLC. It felt so good!

I left the mask on for roughly 3 hours – just clipped it up & went on with my evening activities – making dinner, helping with homework, bathing the kids, an episode of Law & Order – ya know, mom shit.

I then rinsed and shampooed + used a very small amount of conditioner. I let it air dry, as Im trying to stay away from heat tools for a bit.

It seriously made my hair so much softer! It was a little greasy, even after washing – so perhaps next time I won’t condition afterwards?!!?? Maybe thats where I messed up.. but it was nothing a little dry shampoo couldn’t fix 😉

Let me know if you try this out and how the results work for you!
